How do you get audiences to buy a book about art and our deadliest fear?
The Rapture of Death by Prue Gibson is a philosophical enquiry into the use of deathly imagery in contemporary art. Read about stalking monsters, nineteenth century ghost traditions, skulls, taxidermy, seventeenth century wunderkammer and the latest curiosity art to find some answers. We designed a small, tactile and collectible the book. Mysterious and intimate, like a prayer book or missal, the black ribbon, embossed cover with contrasting marbled end-papers and the black edges completed the picture.
‘FINALLY!!! A book on Australian Contemporary art you actually want to pick up and read.’ Kinokuniya
‘Like a certain friend is known to proclaim – WOW! That was my first impression seeing “The Rapture of Death” a beautifully crafted little book… If you are looking for something for that special friend… look no further, even Nosferatu would be impressed. Two dismembered thumbs up!’ Design Federation
